Lie of the Land
Name and title: John Doak, owner and RIBA president.
Dot Com Centre
Specialise in: I would say the market believes we’re high end residential but we do all facets of projects, including commercial, resorts, civic residential.
Company divisions: We’re a small company so we really tailor our services to each and every project, taking into account the client’s budget and the scope of the project. We offer interior design, structural design and engineering, although we’re principally architecture and project management.
Number of staff: Two principal providers
Commercial projects: UBS Building, Elgin Avenue, Cayman National Bank, Elgin AvenueWest Wind, Harbour Drive, George Town, Harquail Theatre, Central Caribbean Marine Institute, Little Cayman
Residential projects: The place most people would recognise is the Beck residence in South Sound, although we try and be discreet with our residential projects. Most of the work is at Cayman Kai, the Yacht Club, Vista Del Mar, Crystal Harbour and Salt Creek.
Aims for the future: We’ve been very blessed being residential architects as we’ve been able to sustain a pretty good level of work during the global recession. In terms of Cayman, it’s a good sign that there’s still investment confidence in this locale. Most of the houses we design are for offshore investors or leading players in Cayman. We have a few resort projects in the wings, some commercial projects and we’re also heavily involved in a number of interior design projects.
