Kitchens are no longer mere food preparation areas tucked into a narrow space in the far reaches of a home. They are increasingly becoming the heart of the home – a place where families and friends gather, socialise and enjoy meals – and therefore require careful planning and design to ensure both a practical space for preparing food and enjoyable area in which to relax.
The overall style of a kitchen must blend with the architectural style of the rest of the home and the choice of cabinetry will be the main factor in this: if the rest of the home is all sleek, uncluttered lines, a country-style kitchen with lots of turned wood and detailed wood trim will not be a good fit.
However, with a vast choice of cabinetry styles and finishes available, finding the right match, whether contemporary or traditional is easy.
A kitchen must of course be functional as well as looking good. Kitchen designers will work with you not only to calculate the optimum distance between stove, sink and refrigerator in your work triangle, but to achieve a kitchen layout that will address all the needs of the family.
