Is propane safe?

Yes, Propane is a very safe energy source.  It has a narrow range of flammability and cannot be ingested like gasoline and other alcohol fuels because it is released as a vapor from pressurized containers.  It is non-toxic and non-caustic and will not create an environmental hazard if released as a liquid or vapor into water or soil.

The Propane Education and Research Council (PERC) recommends installing a combination gas and carbon monoxide detector near each indoor propane appliance and to buy only units that are listed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for added safety.

If I change my electric appliances to propane appliances will it reduce my utility bill?

Yes, on average propane appliances cost 50% less to run than electric appliances.  You will see a decrease on your electricity bill.

What appliances or applications can I use with propane?

Stoves, cook-tops, ovens, clothes dryers, tankless water heaters, refrigerators, BBQ’s, Outdoor stove/grills, pool heaters, spa heaters, outdoor tiki torches, outdoor fire bowls, mosquito magnets and more.

Can I hook up my propane appliances myself?

Most propane related accidents are caused by the improper installation of propane piping and appliances by unqualified persons.  Only professionally certified propane gas installation technicians should install your propane piping and appliances.

Does the supply line have to be mounted on the wall exterior?

For new buildings/pre construction, 99% of the pipe will be hidden in your walls.  For retrofit projects, there are many ways to conceal pipes for a neat clean installation.

What do I do if I smell gas?

Immediately put out all smoking materials and other open flames.  Do not operate any lights, appliances, telephones or cell phones.  Leave the building immediately.  Turn off the main gas supply valve on the propane tank, if it is safe to do so.  Call your local certified gas company to come and inspect.
